Frequently asked questions
Where is the SunsetMail button?
Open Gmail in Chrome. The button is in Gmail's header, just left of the settings (gear) button. If Gmail's header cannot be used, a SunsetMail button appears at the bottom right of the page instead.
Cleanup did not move my emails to Trash.
- New installs start in preview mode, which only counts expired emails. Switch to "Move expired emails to Trash" on the Cleanup tab of the options page.
- Cleanup runs every 6 hours, when Chrome starts, and when you open Gmail (at most once an hour). It only runs while Chrome is running.
- Starred emails are never moved.
- Lifespans count from the day an email was received, not from when the rule was applied.
How do I get an email back?
Open Trash in Gmail, select the email, and choose "Move to Inbox". Gmail keeps emails in Trash for 30 days. Star the email if you want SunsetMail to leave it alone in the future.
Does SunsetMail read my emails?
SunsetMail reads only what it needs, such as the sender, recipient, and subject of the email you open, and only to fill in the rule form and run your rules. It has no servers of its own and never sends your Gmail data anywhere except Google. See the Privacy Policy for details.
How do I stop using SunsetMail?
- Remove SunsetMail from Chrome (
chrome://extensions). This deletes the data SunsetMail stored in Chrome. - Revoke its access in your Google Account: Third-party apps with account access.
Filters and labels SunsetMail created stay in Gmail. You can delete them in Gmail settings (Filters and blocked addresses) and in the label list.
