Every email has a lifespan.
SunsetMail is a Chrome extension for Gmail. Open an email you don't need to keep, click once, and SunsetMail creates a Gmail filter for it. Matching emails move to Trash after 7 or 30 days, so your inbox tidies itself.
What SunsetMail does
One click from the email
A button in Gmail's header opens a rule form filled in from the email you are viewing: sender, domain, recipient, subject. No search syntax to type.
A lifespan for each rule
Keep matching emails for 7 days or 30 days, or send them to Trash as soon as they arrive. You can also skip the inbox and keep them in their label.
See before you apply
Before a rule touches existing mail, SunsetMail shows how many emails match and how many would go to Trash on the next cleanup.
All your filters, named
Give rules names you will recognize later. Search, edit, and delete every Gmail filter in one list, including filters you made in Gmail settings.
Safe by design
- Trash, never delete. SunsetMail only moves emails to Trash. Gmail keeps Trash for 30 days, so you can restore anything.
- Starred emails are never touched. Star an email to keep it, whatever the rule says.
- Preview first. New installs start with cleanup in preview mode: SunsetMail counts what it would move until you turn it on.
- No servers of ours. SunsetMail runs in your browser. Your emails travel only between your browser and Google, and are never stored or sent anywhere else. Privacy policy
How it works
- Open an email you don't need to keep, such as a newsletter or a notification.
- Click the SunsetMail button in Gmail's header, check the conditions, and pick a lifespan.
- That's it. SunsetMail creates the Gmail filter, and moves expired emails to Trash while Chrome is running.
